Subject | 2007 State Implementation Plan (SIP) |
Comment | Dear Chairman Sawyer & Members of the California Air Resources Board, The proposed SIP does not sufficiently address the urgency of the air quality crisis. CARB estimates that fine particulate pollution (PM2.5) in the South Coast Air Basin is responsible annually for 5,400 premature deaths. This plan provides a 4 year delay in attainment of air quality standards, meaning that 21,600 more people will die from particulates, in addition to all the additional respiratory diseases from ozone. It is time to stop relying on a "black box." Implement real reductions now. There are many technologically feasible measures including improved smog checks, particulate traps, consumer products and addressing marine vessels, recreational boats and off-road vehicles. Sincerely, Ecology Center of Southern California P. O. Box 351419 Los Angeles, CA 90035 |
